14 - Vinny Houh
Vinny is a CNC programmer and machinist. He's also a guitar enthusiast. Vinny started playing guitar when he was a sophomore in high school. He's been playing vi- olin since he was 4 and he always hated it. He found guitar to be a much more creative instrument and it's been his main music hobby ever since. He mains indie rock, however he plays songs and licks from all sorts of genres: blues, metal, jazz, rock, etc. Back when he took lessons, he was trained in Jazz chord solos: Tal Farlow esque music. Vinny plays mostly for himself by circumstance, but he always enjoys jamming and making music with friends. Vinny is more of a hired-gun guitarist, recording samples and songs for friends whenever they get together.
Vinny’s guitars:
Eastman T386 (ES type guitar): Dad said he would get me this guitar if I passed Chem in high school
Tele: Fender mod shop, customized by me
Strat: Fender mod shop, customized by me
Music Man Valentine: Christmas bonus money, great as a catch-all guitar with coil split and on board boost.
Jazzmaster: Saved up a bunch of sweetwater gift cards.
What was your first guitar and do you still have it?
My first guitar was technically my Dad's old Yamaha, but what I consider to be my first guitar is my Eastman T386, I still have it. I was failing chemistry junior year of high school and my dad said he would buy me the guitar if I passed. I still play it to this day, it's one of my most unique in the collection.
What's your favorite guitar right now and why?
My favorite guitar is my Tele, I just love that singing high end and it's tone is just so conducive to the indie rock that I love (Chris Vanderkooy of Peach Pit for any fans out there).
What's your newest purchase?
Latest purchase is my American Pro II Jazzmaster.
How often do you play?
Every day for a few hours, sometimes more if I'm watching a show or something. I like to have a guitar near by just to noodle while I'm doing other things.
What's the music you are creating, what's the mission behind it?
The mission is really just to make music, I just like it. I've collabed on a few different types of genres. The person I work closest with makes EDM, although she likes to sample spanish guitar and jazz stuff, so I record a lot of that. Other than that, I guess you could say I record mostly indie music for friends.
