23 - Cap
Cap is a self-taught musician who has grown to prefer being called by his nickname. He mainly plays bass guitar and guitar and has a particular affinity for the strange and uncommon. Cap first picked up instruments three years ago after being hooked on anything Cliff Burton, leading him to make his favorite bass, which he dubbed his "Cliffenbacker." He cloned a Rickenbacker 4001 and swapped in Burton's pickups. Cap's current favorite band is "TOOL," and he loves the sound of their music.
After playing bass for a while, Cap discovered "TOOL," which made him want to buy a guitar. He picked an Eastwood Airline 59, which he paired with a Fender HOT 75W practice amp from the '90s that he restored, and played it until he found another amp, his current tuck and roll naugahyde 1972 Kustom Charger 28b bass amp, which he bought because it smelled good. Cap eventually bought an Epiphone Les Paul Traditional Pro 2 in wine red, which became his current favorite guitar.
One day, Cap had an accident that created what he now calls the "Undertow amp." He was watching videos of guitarists cranking their old amps outside and decided to try it himself. After playing some of his favorite riffs from "TOOL," Cap turned the volume up to around 75-80%, and the feedback was an amazing sound. He then stepped on the delay pedal to play "Stinkfist," and the sound cut out. When Cap investigated, he noticed smoke coming out of the front of the amp and realized it was on fire. He quickly put out the fire with a hose but found that the speaker and the grill cloth were damaged. Cap rebuilt the amp with a Celestion 100w Fullback and album art from "TOOL's" Undertow album.
Cap is still working on improving his skills and practicing whenever he has free time. He dreams of one day making his own music. Cap is currently 21 and living in Northern Kentucky, around 30 minutes from Cincinnati.
Cap’s guitars:
Epiphone learner flying V. My first guitar, was a Christmas present around age 12. It no longer works, but it's sentimental so I plan on keeping it.Â
Epiphone les paul traditional pro 2. My current main guitar I use. Everything about it is an upgrade from the Airline (far right)
Washburn D-10 acoustic. My late father's guitar that was handed down to me after he passed.
Eastwood Airline 59. The first 6 string guitar I bought with my own money. It is not easy to play, it likes to fight against you and the tone knobs get in the way. It's my weird thing and I love it.
Cap’s basses:
Squier classic vibe 60s jazz bass. My first bass I bought with my own money.
The Cliffenbacker 4001. My current favorite bass that has been swapped with Cliff Burton's pickups.
Jackson CBXNT DX PJ. My active bass that I bought because of how well it plays MotörheadÂ
